From major international tournaments such as the World Cup of Beach Soccer and the Commonwealth Youth Games, to the first LPGA event of the season and a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, the first half of 2017 is jam packed with events that make it a sports fan’s paradise!

Sunshine Insurance Marathon Bahamas – January 14-15, 2017

Sunshine Insurance Marathon Bahamas Featuring runners from 25 countries, the Sunshine Insurance Marathon is the biggest and best endurance event in the Bahamas. Starting at dawn at the stunning Junkanoo Beach, the race brings runners along the northern shoreline, through the scenic streets of downtown Nassau, and over the western and eastern Paradise Island bridges before finishing at the beautiful oceanfront Arawak Cay. This fast and flat course is the perfect place to achieve qualifying times for the Boston Marathon and is a great winter race for those looking to stay in peak form. Proceeds from the race go to a number of local charities and organizations, and there is entertainment lining the route all weekend, making it a great way to kick off 2017!

Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic – January 26-29, 2017Pure Silk LPGA Classic

Played on Paradise Island not far from THIRTY | SIX luxury condos at the picturesque Ocean Club Golf Course, the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic is the first event of the 2017 LPGA season. The par 73, 6,625 yard oceanfront course is a unique mix of challenge and beauty that will test the world’s best female golfers. With a $1.4 million prize pool, 108 player field and 500 points on the line, things are sure to heat up heading into the final day. Last year’s event was highlighted by an incredible come from behind victory by Hyo Joo Kim, who stormed back with a final round 7-under par to claim the championship. FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Bahamas – April 27-May 7, 2017

FIFA Beach Soccer Bahamas 2017The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup is the premier international beach soccer tournament in the world. The 2017 tournament will be the 9th edition officially sanctioned by FIFA and the 19th time the tournament has been played since its inception in 1995. 16 countries from all 6 FIFA confederations will compete in the newly built stadium on the shores of Nassau for the sport’s biggest prize. Beach soccer is a fast paced, high scoring variant of the beautiful game that’s played on a small, compact field of soft sand, making it a fantastic spectator sport to check out.

Bonus: The CONCACAF Beach Soccer World Cup Qualifiers will be held in Nassau from February 20 – February 26 to determine who will qualify for the 2017 Beach Soccer World Cup.

2017 Commonwealth Youth Games – July 19-July 23

Bahamas Common Wealth Games YouthThe Commonwealth Youth Games will mark the first time in over 50 years that a Commonwealth Games event is held in the Caribbean, bringing over 1000 youth athletes from 71 countries to the Bahamas. 2017 will be the sixth and largest edition of the Games in the event’s history. Events include athletics, swimming, rugby sevens, cycling, judo, boxing, tennis, beach volleyball and beach soccer. Opening and closing ceremonies, as well as many of the events, will be held at the world-class Thomas A. Robinson Stadium in Nassau, making it just a short drive to check out these future stars this summer.
